DUBAI – Travel searches from Kuwait in January point to a strong early-year planning mindset, with travellers using the month to explore destinations and assess options well ahead of peak travel seasons, according to newly released data from Wego.

The findings highlight January as a discovery and research period rather than a time of immediate bookings. Search behaviour suggests travellers are laying the groundwork for trips scheduled later in the year.

Wego, the number one travel app and the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa, analysed January search activity from Kuwait to better understand emerging travel intent. The data shows that travellers are comparing destinations, monitoring prices, and evaluating travel windows as part of a broader annual planning approach.

Early planning

Search patterns indicate that forward-looking travel intent dominated January activity. Searches with lead times of more than 30 days accounted for 42% of total searches during the month, reflecting a clear focus on future travel rather than last-minute trips. This trend aligns with post-holiday planning habits, annual budgeting considerations, and the desire to secure availability before demand rises during busier periods.

January search volumes from Kuwait surpassed three million and continue to grow, offering early insight into how travel demand is expected to develop in the months ahead. Wego’s data suggests that travellers are actively tracking fares and destinations as part of a longer decision-making cycle.

Destination mix

Destination interest during January showed a strong tilt towards regional travel. Regional destinations accounted for 68% of total searches, while international destinations made up 32%. This split reflects a current preference for shorter and more flexible trips, particularly during the early planning phase of the year.

Wego experts note that interest in long-haul travel is expected to increase as the year progresses, with travellers gradually shifting from research to confirmed bookings once schedules and budgets are finalised.

Search insights

As early-year planning activity intensifies, Wego’s platform enables travellers to search, compare, and book flights and hotels across hundreds of airlines and travel providers in one place. Tools such as real-time availability, fare calendars, and price alerts support informed decision-making during the research stage, when travellers are assessing options rather than committing immediately.

January’s search behaviour from Kuwait offers a clear preview of travel demand forming ahead of the year’s busiest seasons, with early engagement playing a key role in shaping booking patterns later in the year.
